What is bringing you joy these days?
(Generally)
What keeps you up at night?
Or, if you wake in the middle of the night, what comes to mind?
Our Experience
This conversation helped Libby and me do two things: First, pause and be present to our own life, and secondly, enjoy telling each other about the things we are enjoying. It wasn’t a deep conversation, but it was meaningful.
“Well, I’m enjoying these cool days with low humidity. I’m enjoying hearing the birds in our backyard and sitting on the porch for dinner,” Libby starts.
(Actually, we are eating all three meals on the porch.)
“I’m also enjoying watching the cucumbers grow.”
(We are not gardeners, but our grandson bought some small cucumber plants at the Farmers’ Market. They are planted in pots with trellis cages. We all inspect them several times a day to see how they are climbing.)
“And, of course, I really enjoy walking with my friends.”
That’s for sure!
I enjoy what Libby has mentioned. I also enjoy greeting the dogs on our street when they are being walked. Shiloh, Lily, and Sebastian drag their owners over when I am out in the front yard. Sebastian is a French Bull Dog. I kneel and brace myself when he comes charging like a linebacker. I met a yellow lab puppy the other day named Maverick. And Abbey just moved in next door.
I also enjoy seeing people at church on Sunday, people of all ages. Last week I got to see a graduating high school senior who was away at a boarding school. We sat together at the potluck and enjoyed talking about sports. He thinks the Knicks are going to surprise the Spurs. I especially enjoy meeting and welcoming visitors.
Going to Planet Fitness a few times each week with three friends is food fun. Our combined ages 286 years. Only one ER visit so far. Treadmills can be tricky. We walk a few stores down to Subway when we finish.
We will save what we worry about, Update: Part 2 for next week.
